Join Us!

Welcome to Arpeggio Community Orchestra! We are a strings-only orchestra with a repertoire that is beautiful and satisfying to play at an intermediate level. Our goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment, more focused on learning and coaching, and less formal than a full orchestra.

We have members with a wide range of skill levels, from beginners who might be experiencing their first time in an orchestra, to those returning to playing after a long break, to adult learners looking to brush up on their skills. Some of our members are even learning a second instrument!

Our relaxed pace and focus on string techniques make us a great fit for those who just want to enjoy playing music without the pressure of a full orchestra. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday nights from 6:30-8:30 pm, and we have two major concerts per year.

Dues are $40 per concert, so come join us and experience the joy of making music in a friendly and supportive community!

For more details about joining, submit the form below.

Thank you for your interest in joining us! We'll be in touch soon!

Lea Bateman-King

Lea started playing the violin at age 6 and grew up in a home where music was valued and encouraged. After graduating college with a degree in Music Education, she began her 35-year career teaching orchestra in the Boise Schools in 1978, where she met her husband John, also a music teacher. Their two children also took up instruments; Aaron is a cellist, and daughter Brenna plays viola in Serenata Orchestra along with her mom.

Being a member of several community orchestras and numerous pit orchestras for Boise Music Week performances during her career, the idea of adults having a place to play without necessarily being a professional musician became a passion of Lea’s. She was a member of Eagle Chamber orchestra, even conducting the group for three years, then helped transition the group to become Serenata Community Orchestra, a full orchestra with nearly 100 members. After substitute conducting for Telford Adult Orchestra she became the full-time conductor in 2019 and helped grow what is now Arpeggio Orchestra.

In addition to her duties with Serenata (music librarian) and Arpeggio Orchestras, Lea still finds time to play for fun. She plays for contradances monthly with a Scottish fiddle band, The Acrasians and also plays with another small string ensemble, The Tangled Strings. In her copious spare time she might be found arranging music for her groups, or sewing, knitting, or calligraphy, mostly to stay out of trouble.

Joey Henson

Joey Henson began his musical adventure under the watchful eye of his grandmother on her piano. His family's continued support and some truly excellent teachers were instrumental (pun fully intended) to his becoming the multi-instrumentalist he is today.

Career highlights include Acting Principal Cello with the Idaho State Civic Symphony, Principal Bass with the Idaho Falls Symphony and Serenata Orchestra, violist with Idaho Falls Opera Theatre and violinist with Idaho Summer Repertory. Recently you can find him jamming in a bluegrass circle as he explores the guitar as well as the sexiest instrument out there, the 5-string banjo.

Outside of music, Joey is an active fiber artist and amateur photographer.
